I now have to Argus Super Seventy-Five's. A Kodak Duraflex II, a Kodak Pony II, A Kodak Pleaser II, a Herco Imperial 620 Snap Shot, a Polaroid Land Camera M60 and a Polaroid One Step. I also found a Weston Master II light meter.

American River in November - The Salmon Cometh

I love going to the American River this time of year. The salmon are coming up for a late season spawn which bring the Gulls and the Vultures in droves to the river. Today was beautiful, 75 and sunny. I took my kids and spent a couple hours walking the river near Sunrise and the Fair Oaks bridge. We saw lots of fish, birds, ducks and vultures.

There are salmon in this pic. I used a polarized lens, but they are still hard to make out. But then that is Nature doing her job, making them blend into their environment, right? LOL

If you live in Sacramento or the surrounding area and you can take a trip down to the river, now's the time to do it. It's a great thing to experience, to see nature in action and see "the circle of life" up close and personal. It has been about 10 years since we have had the salmon in these numbers here in Sacramento. I think next week I might head to the fish hatchery. Hopefully the salmon will still be spawning in number and I can get some good pics.

Cosumnes River Preserve and Sandhill Cranes

Hi there! Well the skies cleared up just enough on Sunday for me to be able to head down to the Cosumnes River Preserve and checkout the sandhill cranes. I love these big birds. Every year they migrate here to Sacramento to winter over and breed.

I had the dog with me, so I could not get out and walk the preserve. All photo's were shot from the cab of the truck today.

The American River

Another B-E-A-Utiful weekend here in Northern California. #Chloe_dog and I tried to take full advantage by heading down to the American River. The salmon are just starting to run. Lot's of fisherman, from the bridge's, the bank's and guided drift boats. I got a few photo's, thought I'd share them with you.

Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area 10-16-11

It's always nice when you wanna get away and spend a little time to yourself, to have somewhere to go that's not so far away. One of my favorites is the Vic Fazio Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area. About 20 minutes from my house, it's locate along the Pacific flyway and along Highway 80. After a long dry summer there is much water in it yet, but in another couple of months the entire area will be flooded.

I wasn't sure what, if any birds I would see today, but the Causeway never disappoints. There were a variety of raptors and shorebirds on hand. I also took the dog with me so she could run on the levee surrounding the Bypass.

Lodi Grape Festival

Made it down to the Lodi Grape Festival on Saturday. My friends Houses of the Holy were playing the Budweiser stage there. They put on another fantastic show. These guys just keep getting better and better. If you love Led Zeppelin, these guys are the best Led Zeppelin tribute band in Northern California. I highly recommend checking them out if you get a chance. Check out their website Housesoftheholy.com for upcoming shows.

After the show, my daughter and I headed over to the rides and had some fun. 3 ferris wheels and the Zipper! Nice!!

San Francisco

Labor Day Weekend in The City.

So I spent a few days playing tourist in San Francisco over the Holiday weekend. So I thought I would share a few pictures with you.

First day I got to go to a Giants night game. They played the Diamondbacks. A great game, and the Giants won. AT&T Park is an amazing place to see a MLB game. I had such a great time.

The one thing about San Francisco is there is a lot of history and a lot of cool sights. When in The City you have to ride the cable car. It is a must.

Next I recommend checking out Pier 39, but only because everyone needs to say they have been there. It is mostly high priced tourist crap and lots of restaurants, but you can see Alcatraz and the seals. Plus that is one of the most famous spots.

And while your at the Wharf, make sure to walk down to Ghirardelli chocolate. So worth the walk. Great chocolate!!!

Lunch that day was at Cioppino's on Jefferson St. Great food.

Coit Tower is another landmark worth visiting. However, parking does make it difficult to get to. We lucked out and got a spot on the street leading up to the Tower. The views from here are pretty spectacular, with a 360 degree view of The City. You can see both bridges, the Bay Bridge and the Golden Gate. Also there is a nice view of Lombard Street, the Wharf, the Ferry Building and Treasure Island.

From Coit Tower, it was on to the Palace of Fine Arts. The Palace of Fine Arts was built for the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition. It's a cool piece of architectural history.

Once your at the Palace, you are at the on ramp to the Golden Gate Bridge. So head on over and take the walk across the bridge. The first day we were there that famous fog rolled in.

It was a bit clearer later that weekend. This is from the Lands End side of the bridge

Next up The Haight. More tourist destination than hippie hangout these days. Trendy little shops and Irish pubs made for a nice walk and a better lunch.

The last day, we drove through downtown and the financial district looking at the big buildings.

I know it's been a minute since I posted anything. Sorry! I did manage to sneak out and go down to the American River today. It was your typical 100 degree day. Lots of people rafting the river. Lots of bikers on the trail. Not much wildlife. I did manage to sneak up on a few critters. Hope everyone is having a great summer! Peace!

Alameda Point Antiques Faire

So long The Tattered House. Well, it's official. The doors of The Tattered House closed for the final time on Friday. It was 4 great years, but all good things must come to an end I guess.

A Day at Dillon's Beach

The kids and I got down to Dillon's Beach for a little R&R. We had a great day! Beautiful weather. Sunny and 75!!!

So the first thing that my son does is takes off down the beach with the dog. He then decides to race the dog back to us. Big mistake. I happened to be clicking off shots as he came running back. As the photo's show, he caught a toe in the sand and "Down Goes Frazier"! LOL

But, he shook it off like a good sport, and proceeded to have a great day. Lots of sun, sand and water!

I think the Boy and his Dog had a great day!! We all did, but they had the most fun and the most sand and water! LOL

I mean who doesn't love to bury themselves in the sand?

I even got the kids to pose with their Old Man for a few pics. They grow up so fast!!!

Oh and on the way in we spotted a commercial for Fruit of the Loom being filmed. Can't wait to see what it's about!

Westminster Woods

Hello, just got back from a week chaperoning my daughter's 6th grade class on their end of year trip.

Located above Occidental,Ca on the Bohemian Hwy along Dutch Bill Creek, Westminster Woods is in a beautiful redwood forest.

Our cabins where we all slept. Nothing like sleeping with 7 twelve year old boys to keep you on your toes.

One thing all the kids commented on was how good the food was. Pictured below is the chow hall where we ate our 3 squares everyday

This is the soccer/football field where the kids could go in their free time to burn off some excess energy.

They also where able to go swimming every night. And yes, the pool was heated!

Cargo net, another great place to burn off some energy!

Day one started at Shell Beach along PCH 1, just above Bodega Bay. The kids were able to do some tide pooling and then ate lunch on the beach.

Sea Star

Day 2 featured an all day hike which took about 6 hours, was twelve miles long and had a 1000ft change in elevation. The kids learned about the forest they were hiking through and the surrounding flora and fauna.

We even managed to spot a few critters along the way. Scorpions, salamanders and banana slugs were just a few of the creepy crawlies that were found.

Day 3 was spent on the challenge course. Unfortunately it rained that day and I didn't have my camera with me. The kids did get a few pics.

The zip line is just one of the high ropes obstacles the kids did. There also was the "eagles nest" a 20 foot high pole that they climbed and then stood on top of if they could. Harnessed to a rope they could then jump off and try to hit several tether balls as the flew through the air. Fun stuff. There is also some low rope stuff that included problem solving and group participation. It's a great program that the people at Westminster Woods put on. It was my second time going and have to say, I think it's a must for all the 6th grade kids.

On the final day the kids learned about ecology and protecting the earth. They then did some stuff around camp to make it a better place. Planting flowers and creating habitat for the animals that live in the forest and in the creek.

Cottage Girls in Carmichael

Well it was another B-E-A-Utiful day here in Northern California. My daughter, Abbey and I , decided to do a little yard saling and worked our way over to Carmichael. Since we were in the neighborhood, we stopped at Cottage Girls.

The great thing about Cottage Girls, is you never know what Jana will have on display. Today we saw lots of skulls, some taxidermy birds/eggs and some hide covered stools. I tried to take lots of pics, so here's a little trip around the store with my camera in case your not in the Sacramento area. Enjoy!

Osama Bin Laden is announced Dead

I'm not usually political, but it looks like it has finally happened. The President just came on tv and announced that Osmam Bin Laden has finally been killed. He also said that Americans are in possesion of the body, so it looks like we have physical proof.

I'm sure everyone remembers where they were on Sept 11, 2001 I know I do. And now I think alot of people will remember this day as well.

I can’t even imagine how those people in New York must be feeling right now. 9-11 still haunts alot if those people. Maybe now this will help some of them put that to rest, 10 years later.

Checking Facebook, everyone is posting about it. Man ,this is spreading like wildfire!

It will be interesting to see how this affects the war on terror. Will out troops get to pull out of Afganastan now? I’m sure the next few days all kinds of things will be discussed.

It seems these days that everyone is looking for was to supplement their income. I have, over the past months, found eBay to be a pretty lucrative way to make some extra cash. Each weekend I head out with one of my kids and we go to the yard sales and garage sales, or swing by the local flea markets looking for hidden treasures to sell. Recently I have become interested in other ways, besides eBay, to sell my goods. EBay is a great way to sell things, but they can have been known to kick you off for any number of reasons and it's never a good idea to have all you eggs in one basket, or so I have been told. LOL

So in searching around the Internet, I have discovered an up an coming marketplace called Yardsellr.com. They have managed to integrate themselves with Facebook, which is definitely one of the biggest Internet fads going these days. I have only just started using Yardsellr.com as a way to market my goods, but I gotta tell you, the free listing and selling fees are making it worth the time to have multiple channels to sell through. And when you think about how popular Facebook is, that's a huge channel to have exposure to!

I volunteered my time this weekend to help the Girls at The Tattered House get caught up on some projects. To get some furniture in the store faster, I did some sanding for them. Here are some of the pieces that will be coming in to the store in the near future:

I was up in the attic this weekend looking for stuff to put on eBay and I found a box of old record albums. I totally forgot I had these. As I started to look through them, I realized what we are missing out on in this digital age. Look at all this great cover art that we used to get when we bought a record album.

Ok, so in case you didn't know, I am getting into selling stuff on eBay. I am going around to yard sales and garage sales looking for that elusive "Jewel in the Junk" and rescuing from the trash heap. Occasionally you will see my finds posted here on the blog. I have also discovered another site called Bonanza. It's a lot cheaper for the seller, no listing fees and the sales fees are way cheaper than eBay. I have posted a widget link at the top of the blog that will take you to my booth or follow this link http://www.bonanza.com/booths/AJewelintheJunk

I am currently trying out another site called yardsellr.com. http://yardsellr.com/ it is integrated into Facebook and is free to use. No Fees. I just started using it, so I will let you know h0w it goes.

Made it out to the Yolo Causeway today. Cold and rainy weather, super overcast. Unfortunately my 300mm lens does horrible in low light. I had to try and enhance these as best I could. I apologive for the poor quality. Lots of birds this time of year. One of my favorite places to go.
