Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area

Hello everyone, I went out to the Yolo Causway today. What a beautiful day, mid to high 70's, you couldn't ask for better weather. I haven't gone to the wildlife area during the summer months before, but with some extra time on my hands I thought I would check it out.

The farmers have taken over most of the land and are growing rice on it. But in the areas that aren't being irragated for rice, the summer heat has started to brown the grasses and dried up the water that normally fills the shallow marshes.

Sacramento's hot summers with 100 degree temps has sent most of the winter birds north to cooler climates. I went at mid day, so a lot of birds were in the bull rushes avoiding the heat. I did however manage to catch a few birds on camera.

Todays sightings included the following:

Tri-Color Black bird
Mallard Duck
Yellow Crowned Night Heron
White Faced Ibis
Great Blue Heron (White morph and Blue)
Snowy Egret
Black Necked Stilt
Tree Swallow
Ring Necked Pheasent
Northern Mockingbird
American Crow
Marsh Wren
Black Pheobe
